The Last Beekeeper by Jared Gulian
Masterton District Library and Wairarapa Library Service presents One Book, One Community. A Wairarapa-wide reading event that encourages everyone to read the same book and come together for discussion and activities to promote awareness of libraries and foster a sense of community through reading.
We are excited to announce that the 2022 selection is local Martinborough author, Jared Gulian’s new novel The Last Beekeeper.
What is One Book, One Community?
It is a fun and innovative way to unite our community through shared reading and conversation. We invite everyone in the Wairarapa to join the movement and read together, participate in book discussions and related events and attend the Evening with the Author event. It is an excellent way to meet people of different ages, backgrounds and experience; learn from each other; and promote connection through literature.
Jared Gulian is a bestselling memoirist and science fiction author. Born and raised in the Midwest of the United States, he now calls Martinbourough home.
Best known for his farming memoir, An Olive Grove at the Edge of the World (originally released in NZ under the title Moon Over Martinborough), he is also the author of the Vespling Series, a suspense-filled science fiction thriller series launched in July 2021 with the release of The Last Beekeeper. It is the first book in what is currently planned as a four-part series.

Join us as we kickoff the first annual One Book, One Community event at 6pm on Wednesday 4th of May at the Greytown Town Hall. We will have books for sale, a talk about bees, and a chance to meet the author.

Our One Book, One Community event culminates in an evening with Jared Gulian, author of our 2022 OBOC selection, The Last Beekeeper. Jared will discuss his book, his writing process, followed by Q&A and an autograph session. We invite everyone out for an entertaining evening at the Carterton Events Centre.
